Meet the ArtistLaurel Dunscomb creates unique sculptures, paintings, and fine works of art in various materials for public places, businesses, homes and gardens. As a professional artist, Laurel has artworks featured in public and private collections as well as national and international exhibitions."I chose sculpture and painting as a medium because of their unique ability to communicate. Sculpture and painting allows us to experience tangible form, and intangibIe space. I incorporate the two so the viewer perceives them as equal and is drawn into this relationship. The pieces comprise a modeling process that interprets simplicity as power, and balance as an urgent kinetic force. This applies to my works in other media forms as well. My work integrates into the environment in which it is placed, yet moves us into an internal place, which is open to interpretation. The experience is completed on an individual basis depending on what the individual has experienced, and all the paradoxes that implies. My sculpture and paintings will respond not just to physical conditions but also to the cultural context of its environment. I work with relevant themes that affect human lives. Subject matter has included the environment, animal welfare, and human rights. The awareness of these issues and addressing them in my work will, hopefully, work towards a better future for upcoming generations." |
